New Delhi: Television actor Charu Asopa recently revealed that her young daughter is suffering from hand, foot, and mouth disease. The condition that usually grapples toddlers and small children has blisters developed all over the face, hands, legs, and even inside the throat.
Asopa, who shares Ziana with her estranged husband Rajeev Sen, also an actor, said on her popular YouTube channel that the nine-month-old “is not able to eat or drink anything. a lot and was inconsolable. I spoke with the doctor who suggested medicine for stomach ache. That helped her to sleep for two hours. But then, she woke up and resumed crying. I took her to the hospital around 2.30 am,” she said in the video.

She also revealed that after coming back from the hospital Ziana started to develop red spots on the face and hands and that is when the doctor said it could be a case of hand, foot, and mouth disease.

What is hand, foot, and mouth disease?

According to pediatricians, hand, foot, and mouth disease is an infection that causes lesions all over the arms, hands, and legs including feet and painful ulcers in the mouth, along with fever.

The infection is caused by enteroviruses – coxsackievirus A16 and enterovirus 71 that spread through the air via droplet contacts and are highly contagious.

Symptoms of the injection

The hand, foot, and mouth disease is very common in the age group from an infant to 10 years, not very serious but extremely painful and causes a lot of problems even in swallowing due to blisters in the throat. A few of the symptoms include:

  • Fever and pain
  • Throat irritation
  • Painful blisters
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue and tiredness
  • Crankiness

How does the disease transmit?

The viruses that cause the condition are highly contagious and spread through an infected person:

  • Saliva
  • Mucus
  • Discharge from blisters or scabs
  • Tools
  • Coughing or sneezing
  • Sharing food, hugging or kissing
  • Touching surfaces with the viruses on them

Treatment for the disease

Even though there is no cure or vaccine for the ailment, it is best to let it pass within a week or ten days. However, to make the child feel better, you should consult the doctor for over-the-counter pain-relieving medicines like paracetamol, and ibuprofen; Treat them with cold foods like curd, buttermilk, ice pops, and totally avoid sodas.
