Vacaville Christian baseball moves past the first round with win over Woodland Christian, 5-2 – The Vacaville Reporter

In the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Division VII Section playoffs, the No. 6 seed Vacaville Christian High baseball team defeated the No. 3 Woodland Christian Cardinals on the road on Wednesday, 5-2.

The Falcons (13-8) led in the top of the third inning by scoring two. The Cardinals responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth to bridge the gap, but the Falcons were quick to respond in the top of the fifth inning with another run of their own. The Falcons secured their win in the top of the seventh when they scored two to increase their lead, and held the Cardinals (18-6) to only run until the final out was made.

The Falcons now set their sights on the No. 2 seed Turlock Christian Eagles in the next round on the road Monday.

Mariposa County 12, Buckingham Charter 2

The No. 7 seed Buckingham Charter baseball team’s season came to the end on Wednesday when it fell short against the No. 2 seed Mariposa County Grizzlies in the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Division VI Section playoffs, 12-2.

The Knights (6-12) struck first with a run in the first, but the Grizzlies (17-8) responded quickly, scoring ten unanswered runs. Entering the fourth, the Knights once again got another run across, but the Grizzlies secured the win with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game via the mercy rule.

Vanden 4, Rodriguez 3

The Vanden High softball team went toe-to-toe with the Rodriguez Mustangs and came out victorious, remaining undefeated in the Monticello Empire League on Wednesday, defeating its opponents in front of its home crowd, 4-3.

The Mustangs struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning, but the Vikings (18-0, 15-0) responded by getting one run in the bottom of the inning. They followed by scoring another in the fourth to only trail Rodriguez (12-10, 11-4) by one going into the later innings. In the bottom of the seventh, the Vikings managed to score two runs to win the game, ending their regular season on a high note.

The Vikings were led offensively by Mia Santos, who went 3-for-4 scoring one run. Keira Calahan and junior Kaliyah Gibson got an RBI a piece on a 2-for-4 day. Senior Hazyl Gray pitched the complete game for the Vikings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven.

Vacaville 3, Will C. Wood 2

The Vacaville High softball team defeated the Will C. Wood Wildcats at home on Wednesday in a Monticello Empire League regular season finale, 3-2.

The Wildcats (6-13, 4-11) offense came alive when senior Maddy Moorhead scored on a past ball in the top of the first. In the bottom of the second the Bulldogs (14-12, 8-7) responded with two runs of their own, first with an RBI single by sophomore Jordan Munn, followed with and RBI single from senior Kaitlyn Griffin.

The Wildcats managed to tie it up once again in the top of the fourth inning, until the Bulldogs managed to regain their lead in the bottom of the sixth when Munn once again knocked in a run with her second RBI of the game to secure the victory for the Bulldogs in this regular season finale.

Dixon 6, Casa Roble 1

The Dixon High softball team ended its Golden Empire League regular season undefeated with a win on the road on Wednesday against the Casa Roble Rams, 6-1.

Dixon (19-1-1, 10-0) struck early in the first two innings, scoring five of the runs, while Casa Roble (13-10, 6-4) managed to just get its lone run in the bottom of the first. One more run scored in the top of the fourth extended the lead for Dixon, and secured the win.

Sophomore Felesha Lepenske shined in both the circle and in the batters box for Dixon. She threw the complete game, allowing the lone run, five hits all while striking out seven. Offensively, she went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, leading the team with three RBI’s. Senior Lexi Coyle (2-for-4, two doubles) and sophomore Ashley Garcia (2-for-4, one double) each got an RBI a piece.
